The idea for this Concept Board came courtesy of my "little" brother. I say "little" because while he is several years younger than me, at a solid 6-foot-5 he easily towers over me in all my 5-foot-4 glory. He hasn't been my "little" brother since that insane growth spurt at around age 17.
His design request:
"I'd like to see something on a bedroom look for a dude my age. Ya know, something a chick wouldn't mind sleeping in. I have no clue how to decorate a bedroom except going to Zia Records (local music store) for posters and black sheet sets at Walmart."
Um, yeah....I'm still working on the design for bedroom. It seems that for some reason I've run into a huge mental block when it comes to designing a "Lady-Friendly" lair of iniquity for my little bro. Frankly, it makes me throw up a little in my mouth. SO.....that room is going to take a little longer for me to sort out psychologically. Sorry Jared.
So, in the meantime he'll have to be satisfied with a living room concept board.
My idea for the room is an overall masculine sensibility but with loads of style and a little bit of swank. Sort of a modern day Don Draper look as I imagine it. The keys to this look are substantial wood pieces, some metal for an industrial feel, and well-worn leather. I'd love to see the walls painted black like these inspirational images.
I gave a second option for the leather sofa. The first (shown above) is sleeker and more contemporary while the other (below) is decidely traditional with those fantastic rolled arms and button-tufted back. I think I have my heart set on the sofa from grandpa's library. That gorgeous crackled leather is to die for! It brings character, always a welcome addition, and keeps the whole room from looking too brand-new.
What do you guys think? Would a guy with a room like this impress?
I think so! I asked Bengt what he thought of the room and he was simply Drooling! :)
ReplyDeleteYour concept of a bachelor pad for your little brother is super stylish! It's in the line of being manly, yet sophisticated because of its clean look. And I second the opinion on having the walls painted black to infuse a minimalist-industrial feel to the pad!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see that you're designing your little brother's pad. Kinda reminds me of myself actually. Well, about your question, I think it will look fine.
