Lamp Update and My Latest Scores

I fully expected to be finished rewiring my vintage lamps in time for today's post but, much like the 2012 season of Mad Men, it's taking a little longer than expected. Going in, I only anticipated having to replace the cord but as I dismantled them it became clear that the socket was pretty ancient as well.  In the interest of not burning our house down, I'm going to play it safe and replace them too.  They should be finished in time for a reveal on Monday.

Here they are in their current state

My plan to replace the cord was to use electrical tape to attach the new (clear) cord to the end of the original cord and pull it on through.  Easy right?  I obviously didn't tape tightly enough because halfway through, the cords separated.  Ugh.  I had no choice but to take the lamp completely apart and let's just say I was less than thrilled.

Until I got a peek at what was inscribed at the bottom of the ceramic base.

I have no idea what this means or even if this is significant at all but I was excited to find it nonetheless.  I never would have found it if everything had gone according to plan.  There is certainly something to be said for happy accidents!

I didn't get to put any other time into these lamps yesterday because I had to head out to one of my favorite antique malls to pick up these:

Are they gorgeous or what??!!

They're going in my office/studio.  I've been wanting a little pink in that space for a while so I was really excited to find them.  The colors are so clean and bright.

The reflection of my hand holding the camera is totally intentional by the way.  It's call "artistic license" ok?

I also fed my emerging brass addiction with a couple of trinkets:

This swan is just a tiny little thing that fits in the palm of your hand but she is hea-vy for her size.

These candlesticks definitely need a little TLC (nothing a little Rub 'n Buff won't cure!) but I only paid a couple bucks for the pair.

Project progress will have to wait because today I'm spending a little quality with these knuckleheads:

I'll be back here on Friday but until then you can find me on Twitter and Facebook.
