Custom Drapery & Pillow Sources

Is it just me or did the weekend really fly by? The last two days were such a blur, I can't even tell you how I spent most of it!

B works for our local government so I'm really enjoying him having today off for President's Day today.  Not only is he good company but I'll be taking advantage of his presence by having him help me clear out the guest bedroom for painting.  Yes, today is the day that paint meets wall!  They've both heard great things about the other so they're really looking forward to finally meeting.

After the painting is complete, I'll start sewing the lined drapery panels. I've never sewn lined panels but as with anything handmade or crafty, online tutorials abound.  I'm probably going to end up doing a mash-up of this one, this one and this one.  It doesn't look too difficult at all!

Here's the fabric I'll be using:

Down the line I will also be sewing some pillows. Maybe I'll get really crazy and finally attempt a zipper. Wee! While I haven't sewn anything that is extremely complicated yet, I find that what I can sew (pillows, box cushions and hopefully drapery panels) has saved me quite a bit of money. I highly encourage you to give it a shot yourself.  If you can sew a straight line, you can probably sew your own pillows.

I haven't had any formal sewing lessons, unless HomeEc in 7th grade counts, but I got this sewing book which is perfect for beginners like me.  Also, if you search online for "sewing blog" you'll stumble upon all sorts of helpful sites no matter your sewing ability.

If the thought of sewing is still way too intimidating, check out some of these Etsy shops I came across in my search for custom pillows and drapery.  (These are just my unsolicited thoughts about where I would look for affordable options.  I haven't tried these shops yet so I can't personally vouch for them.)

{The Curtain Call}

In addition to custom window panels, The Curtain Call also offers shower curtains.

The window coverings may not be super cheap, especially if you've been spoiled by Ikea drapery prices, but the listings say that they are for a pair of lined, 96-inch panels including fabric and shipping. Which, in the end is extremely reasonable!

{20 Daisy Street}
This shop offers a pair of unlined, grommet panels at 108" long. You can choose your fabric and even the grommet finish.

This final shop has gobs of pillows and a great selection of fabrics. Plus, for us indecisive types, you can also order fabric swatches before you commit.

So tell me, do you sew your own pillows and drapery? Here's your chance to brag! Any great custom shops you would recommend?
