How to Recover Lampshades with Fabric

Since completing the makeover of my guest bedroom last month, I've gotten a slew of questions about the lampshades. They were plain white drum shades when I bought them and since my lamp bases were plain white, I knew the shades were an excellent opportunity to add pattern and color.

Since I'm much better at following tutorials than I am at writing them or photographing them step-by-step, I thought I'd share the tutorial I used. It's from Janell at Isabella & Max Rooms and it couldn't be easier to follow.

Janell finishes her fabric covered lampshade with a decorative trim. That's something I'm thinking of adding to mine. I'm thinking a nice navy velvet would be just right.

What do you think? Trim or not trim?

  1. I have been wanting to try this tutorial. I have the perfect shade...I just need the right fabric. Your shades are beautiful. I think a little navy trim is the perfect final touch to finish them off. I say go for it.
