Polishing Silver - Seriously Easy!

During a random stop into a Goodwill store I spotted this sad little dish for $7.99:

At first glance it isn't much to get excited about but I could see there was some serious beauty hiding underneath years of neglect.

Poor thing, it really wants to be pretty.  All it needs is a little help from this guy:

Yes, toothpaste!  Simply take a soft, dry cloth and add a little toothpaste (it has to be the white paste, not a gel) to it.  Now, gently rub the toothpaste onto your piece of silver (works great on jewelry too!) and you'll see all of that nasty crud melt away instantly.  Rinse it clean and behold!  I know it sounds a little goofy but just look at the results I got today:

Glorious!  Hard to believe that only 5 minutes of polishing with toothpaste got such a dramatic result.

Now all of that beautiful detail on the scalloped edge can really be appreciated.

Now this definitely looks well worth the $7.99 I paid for it.  I'd say that's a pretty good find wouldn't you?  I've got just the perfect spot for it too...

As a jewelry holder, my thrifted treasure adds a lovely bit of femininity to the dressing area I'm creating in our master closet.  It's nearly finished so I'll be posting the entire reveal tomorrow.

Have a great day!
